Ear Throat Nose Doctor

An "Ear Throat Nose Doctor" is a medical doctor focusing on anatomy and diseases of the head and neck region of the body.  Commonly called an "ENT" (Ear Nose Throat), the true medical term for this type of doctor is Otorhinolaryngologist but it’s easier just to call them ENT doctors.

Doctors specializing in Ear-Throat-Nose treat a wide variety of diseases including:

Ear Throat Nose
Recurrent infections Tonsillitis Sinus infections
Cochlear implants Cleft lip and palate Allergies
Hearing abnormalities Throat cancer Apnea and snoring
Dizziness Swallowing disorders Airway obstructions

In addition to the common abnormalities listed above, Ear Throat Nose (sic) doctors work with other specialists to treat diseases and injuries including:

Traumatic injuries
Cancers
Vascular malformations
Thyroid and parathyroid diseases

ENT doctors treat patients of all ages using both medical and surgical techniques.  Treatment can be as simple as a prescription for oral medication or as complex as surgical treatment followed by radiation and speech therapy.  This wide range of patient ages and treatment techniques makes it necessary for Ear Throat Nose doctors to complete years of specialty training.

In the United States, to be Board Certified a medical doctor must complete an additional 5 years of training following residency.  This consists of 1 year of general surgical training followed by 4 years of surgical residency.
